One move that I frequently use in Sealed is to save multiple builds of my pool. Honestly, BO1 Sealed pales in comparison to the strategic depth of BO3. Starting today, MTGA is introducing BO3/Traditional Sealed. Advanced Strats Dealing with Multiple Builds Still a pain in the ass, for sure! But, I guarantee you that building your deck outside the game interface is going to help you see potential builds and card interactions that you would have completely missed otherwise. I recommend keeping your decklist in “list” mode (seen on the right) in Draftsim, that way you can use it as a reference to go card-by-card in order to build your deck in MTGA. Well, unfortunately, MTG Arena has no way to import decks during a sealed event. OK so you’ve built the deck you want to play, how do you get it back into MTGA? Now you can sort your deck in piles by rarity, color, and converted mana cost. You’ll probably notice all the cards have gone over to the sidebar, but don’t fear, there’s a handy “Swap” button so that you can switch the views back and forth while you’re building the deck: From here you’re free to build, sort, and move cards in and out of the sideboard. Paste your deck into the box on the left and click “Submit.”Įt voila! Your deck has been loaded into our sealed deckbuilding screen. Next, head over to the brand new sealed deck uploader. This will copy the deck to your clipboard. Single-click on the deckbox image to select the deck, then click the “Export” button. That will add the decks to your MTGA collection. Unfortunately, the way to do this in MTGA is really weird. Too much mana will limit your options in the deck, and will subject you to mana glutting later in the game. The first step is to export your deck. Those excess lands would be useless, because none of the cards need to get past three mana. Twenty-Eight lands in this deck are way too many – that's about 50% land! This deck can expect to draw a land every other turn during the game, meaning that ChedderCommando would only see seven to eight spells and seven to eight lands by turn 7 of the game. This deck ends curving at three mana – and the average cost of the spells in this deck is only two mana. Without a good mana base, your deck will not perform Let's look at three separate decks that were submitted in the forums.Ī:23: The mana base in your deck serves a very important purpose – it enables you to cast your spells for the game. By explaining these problems en mass, I can help the greatest number of people tune their decks.Īnyhow, on to the rules! RULE #1: Fix Your Mana Base Second, there were several fundamental problems that reared their ugly heads repeatedly across multiple decks. Before I tinkered with other people's decks, I thought it would be nice to show some of the rules I use when building my own decks. First, I've never really laid down any deckbuilding rules outside of the “on a Budget” part of this column. “But Ben,” I bet several of you are going to e-mail me, “why didn't you just get straight to the decks?” The reason is twofold. This does not mean your deck is bad – it simply means that it is a good example of a particular problem I want to discuss. If I use your deck in today's column, please please please do not be offended. Today's column deals with the five pitfalls that people fall into when deckbuilding. There were a ton of great ideas out there, and I'll be doctoring several individual decks in the weeks to come. Everyone was busy submitting decks for me to play deck doctor with, that's for sure! I've received a ton of decklists, but instead of delving straight into doctoring one particular deck, I'm going to take a look at the Building end of this column.īefore I get started, I want to thank everyone for sending in their decks. Welcomeback to Building on a Budget! I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.
